PORTSMOUTH — The usually quiet neighborhood of Common Fence Point was transformed into a pirate’s playground on Saturday, Aug. 23, as more than 30 children and their families set sail on the debut of “Pirate Day.”
Hosted by the Common Fence Point Preparedness Committee (CFPPC) and the Newport County Radio Club (NCRC), the event blended fun, games, and community preparedness into one rollicking adventure.
Handheld radios — “walkie-talkies” to the older buccaneers — became the secret tools to uncovering treasure.
Five groups of eager pirates fanned out through the neighborhood, solving riddles, following clues, and radioing in for their next instructions. Along the way, they unearthed prizes hidden in old treasure chests, stumbled across an old-fashioned phone booth, and kept their spirit
