In early August, a Barrington resident saw an older man trying to lure a coyote into a cage behind Hampden Meadows School. The encounter solicited a response by the Barrington Police Department — they searched for the man and reminded the public that it is illegal to trap wild animals.

The recent incident also raised an alarm with Mike Myers. The longtime Barrington resident has spent the last five years tracking the movements of coyotes throughout town and helped establish the Barrington Coyote Safety Group on Facebook.

Myers said his goal is to help Barrington residents — and resident coyotes — strike a balance of peaceful coexistence.

“This is the purpose of the group, it’s not pro-coyote, it’s pro-cohabitation,” Myers said.
