A new 911 call is revealing the frantic moments after an 8-year-old boy was bitten by a shark off Key Largo on Monday.

The call released on Tuesday was made by a man who was in the area where the child was snorkeling in the ocean when he was bitten on the leg.

"Hold his leg up, hold his leg up," the man tells someone with him as the operator answers. "We're offshore, it's a shark bite."

"Are you guys able to bring the patient back in?" the dispatcher asks.

"Yeah, we're on the boat," the man says, adding that they put a tourniquet on the boy's leg.

"How bad is the bite?" the dispatcher asks.

"It's bad, just at the knee…I gotta stop the bleeding," the man responds.

"Do we know what kind of shark bit him?" the dispatcher asks.

"Reef shark, reef shark," he responds. "The dive boat is
