A full Stage 2 LRT system running from Kitchener to Cambridge would yield the most economic benefit, but would be more expensive to build and operate compared to a rapid bus system that has a higher benefit-to-cost ratio.
“I think when we think about the next step of the project in which we’re going to seek federal and provincial funding, it makes sense to talk about the full-length corridor,” said the region’s acting transportation commissioner, Doug Spooner, during an update on the initial business case process for rapid transit to Cambridge, which will culminate in a recommendation to council in November.
LRT or bus rapid transit (BRT), from Kitchener’s Fairway Station to downtown Galt, are seen as the strongest of five options being evaluated as part of the initial business case proc
