A woman in Middlesex County was diagnosed with West Nile virus , the first human case detected in Massachusetts in 2025.
The woman is in her 70s, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) in a statement on Tuesday.
The case comes over two months after the first West Nile virus (WNV) cases were first detected in mosquito samples across the state. The risk for WNV is high in 10 communities across Suffolk and Middlesex counties, while it is moderate in 193 communities across several other counties, including Essex, Hampden, Norfolk and Worcester counties, among others.
