DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - Thousands of people from all walks of life are heading to Danville this weekend for its first ever Boston Marathon qualifying race, but the mission behind it is even bigger.
“Here we go, here we go!” exclaimed Steve Scott, organizer of the Three Sisters Marathon.
It’s those words of encouragement you might hear Steve Scott saying before a race. He’s been helping people with special needs cross finish lines across the country for years using adaptive wheelchairs.
It’s part of his nonprofit, Running for Freedom , that he started in memory of his brother who had cerebral palsy and passed away at 22.
“One time I was running and the good man upstairs just put it on my heart, and it’s just something I just pursued,” said Scott.
