SCOTTS VALLEY — Authors frequently draw from their own experiences and surroundings for their stories, and that is certainly true of Robin Somers. Whether it is the beet fields of Santa Cruz County where she lives as the setting of her book “Beet Fields: A Murder Mystery” or her former home of the Sierra Nevada foothills being the basis for “Eleven Stolen Horses: Wild Horses Mystery,” Somers’ life experiences play a major role in her storylines, settings and characters.
She will be discussing “Eleven Stolen Horses” at the Scotts Valley Branch Library — the same city where she volunteers at a horse rescue farm — Sept. 13.
Somers’ ties to the Santa Cruz community run deep. She attended UC Santa Cruz from 1992 to 1996 where she got her bachelor’s degree studying literature and English. Afte
