Matt Painter has long emphasized that, ideally, he would like to land the top shooter from Indiana in each recruiting class.

The Purdue coach had likely already accomplished that in the 2026 class with the commitment in August 2024 of Mount Vernon guard Luke Ertel, the No. 1 player in the state, per 247 Sports. The lefty shot 45% from 3-point range as a junior last season.

If that weren't enough, however, Painter on Tuesday added a commitment from a transplant to the state who could challenge Ertel for his shooting crown. Jacob Webber, a 6-foot-6, 175-pound wing from Kearney, Nebraska, is considered among the elite shooters in the 2026 class as a whole.
