FARGO — As the leaves begin to change and temperatures cool, the number of people dealing with fall allergies is on the rise.

A Sanford allergist says there are multiple short- and long-term remedies to help ease allergy symptoms. Suggestions include checking pollen levels before going outside, staying hydrated, and washing pollen off hair and clothes after being outdoors.

The allergist also says desensitization could be a long-term solution for those with severe allergies.

"It takes months and sometimes a year to see the improvement. So if you want to, if you're interested in allergy desensitization, start early so that you're preparing for the next season," said Dr. Woei Yeang Eng, a Sanford allergist.
