MOORHEAD — Tuesday, Sept. 2, was supposed to be the first day of fourth grade for 9-year-old Adam Amin of Moorhead.

His life was cut short this summer when he was hit while riding his bike during summer break.

In front of SG Reinertsen Elementary School, Moorhead’s top two police officers welcomed students back to school.

“Good morning everybody, how’s it going,” said Chief Chris Helmick.

It was part of a daylong traffic safety event held in memory of Adam Amin. He was supposed to start fourth grade Tuesday. Amin was killed in July when he was struck by a city water truck while riding his bike through the crosswalk in front of the school. The raw emotion is still hard to hold back for Helmick.
