WASHINGTON — A Prince George’s County student is recovering after being hit by a car near Imagine Lincoln Public Charter School on Friday, during the first week back to school.

The incident happened in the area of Norcross Street and St. Claire Drive — an intersection that currently lacks a crossing guard and only features a two-way stop. Parents and local education advocates say the situation is unacceptable and are calling for urgent safety improvements.

Arlyn Penaranda, a parent and eyewitness, described the moment she saw the child lying in the street.

“The person was speeding up and hit the child,” Penaranda said. “I was picking up my kids and I saw the girl lying down on the street.”
