WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Students poured out of classrooms across Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools on Tuesday, standing in solidarity with teachers and staff impacted by the district’s $46 million budget deficit.
At Konnoak Middle School, even the assistant principal — Jamille Rhodes , named Assistant Principal of the Year this school year — learned he would be demoted last week. We spoke with Rhodes last week after the news.
“Winning Assistant Principal of the Year was the highlight of my career. The last two assistant principals of the year became principals. I was kind of joking the other day, I said I guess my reward was to get RIF’ed,” Rhodes said.
Students at Hanes Magnet School also marched out, chanting “Save Mrs. Scott” to show support for Assistant Principal Jerrica Scott.
