GREENSBORO, N.C. — A man from Canada is facing federal charges for allegedly voting in North Carolina for two decades — including in the 2024 presidential election.
Investigators say 69-year-old Denis Bouchard moved to the state in the 1960s but never became a U.S. citizen. According to state records, Bouchard registered as an unaffiliated voter in New Hanover and Pender Counties and cast ballots as far back as 2004. He was recently removed from the voter system.
Federal prosecutors say Bouchard lied about being a U.S. citizen on his 2022 and 2024 voter registration applications. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison on each of the four felony counts.
