OMAHA, Neb. —

The Foodbank for the Heartland in Omaha is facing a crisis due to funding cuts and increased demand for food assistance as it works to support thousands in Omaha and western Iowa.

"I'd say we're always in crisis mode. But right now we are very much in crisis mode," Tim Williams said.

Williams explained that the food bank faced drastic cuts from the CCC fund in the spring, which removed essential products like milk, dairy, protein, fresh fruit and vegetables.

"That was then rescinded without notice," he said.

The food bank is also dealing with high inflation and expensive grocery costs.

"We're in this sort of world, as you can sort of see; we're standing in front of this section of our warehouse where we typically house a lot of our USDA product. And it is we are rolling
