IOWA CITY — Former Iowa men’s basketball head coach George Raveling died on Tuesday.

Raveling served as the head coach of the Hawkeyes from 1983-86. He went 54-38 at Iowa and led the program to back-to-back 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament berths in 1985 and 1986.

“We would like to extend our sympathies to the Raveling family,” Iowa head coach Ben McCollum said. “George leaves behind an amazing basketball legacy. He was truly a trailblazer for our sport who devoted his life to the game.”

Though he departed for USC after the 1986 season, Raveling recruited several key contributors to the Hawkeyes’ 1987 Elite Eight run.
