IOWA CITY — The Iowa football program entered week one with a “clearly cloudy” running back situation as four players shared two spots on the first depth chart.
The situation did not get any clearer for the Hawkeyes (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) in a 34-7 win over UAlbany, but for a positive reason.
All five backs who saw the field made the most of their opportunities. Iowa collectively rushed for 310 yards and three touchdowns in the win and each running back managed more than 4.5 yards per attempt.
On Tuesday, head coach Kirk Ferentz said “clearly cloudy” remains the forecast for the Hawkeyes at running back despite an injury to starter Kamari Moulton and a breakout performance from redshirt freshman Xavier Williams.
