YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and downtown Youngstown is turning teal this month to raise awareness.

Teal ribbons are now wrapped around trees as part of the national Turn the Towns Teal campaign.

The local effort is organized by the Rose Mary Flanagan Ovarian Cancer Foundation, led by Erin Lonsway, in memory of her mother.

The ribbons are a bold reminder that awareness and detection can save lives.

"My mom started this organization to have her voice heard, and it's definitely being heard every year, and if we could touch one person's life, that's what it's all about," said organizer Erin Lonsway.

The Rose Mary Flanagan Ovarian Cancer Foundation will host its annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Walk at 9 a.m. next Saturday, Sept. 13, at Boardman P
