HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK (HawaiiNewsNow) - Episode 32 of the of the ongoing Halemaumau eruption began shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Lava dome fountains on the north vent grew into tall fountains that sent lava 500 ft. into the air.
According to the National Weather Service, winds are blowing volcanic gases toward the southwest summit area.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the fountains are inclined, as opposed to some past episodes where lava shot straight up.
Therefore, as long as the fountains stay at an incline, ash and tephra will be greatly reduced, but high volcanic gas emissions may still impact air quality.
