HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The secretary of an engineering firm that survived a public corruption trial is now accused of making illegal campaign donations.
Terri Ann Otani of Mitsunaga & Associates was acquitted in last year’s federal bribery trial.
But testimony from her sister during that trial led the state to charge the 70-year-old with four counts of false name contributions , a class C felony offense.
The charges accuse her of intentionally or knowingly contributing to a candidate or candidate committee in a name other than hers.
Four contributions were allegedly made under the names of two of her relatives: Jo Ann Aurello, Otani’s sister, and Jodee Haugh, her niece.
Some of the money allegedly went to last year’s co-defendant former city prosecutor, Keith Kaneshiro.
