HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu City Council has unanimously passed a resolution urging the city administration to install monitoring devices to help during weather and other climate-related disasters.

“When disaster strikes, when the Emergency Operations Center activates, then everyone who needs to can have eyes on the ground in the community and be able to respond,” said City Councilmember Matt Weyer, who introduced the measure.

Weyer said devices such as cameras would be used to monitor flood-prone streams and other inundation zones, especially in more isolated areas of Oahu.

“You want to ensure that you’re reaching out to the island. And the North Shore, Koolauloa, Koolaupoko, and even the west side are lacking,” he said.
