WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - St. Mary’s High School in Westfield finally welcomed students back to the classroom Tuesday after a water pipe break delayed the start of the semester.

The break occurred last Wednesday afternoon in the high school’s basement, less than 24 hours before the original first day which was slated for Thursday. Water from that burst pipe also destroyed the school’s electrical panels which also impacted the elementary school.

They were able to start class on Friday, while high schoolers got an extra weekend out of summer before heading back Tuesday morning.
