NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Council Member Tasha Ellis says loud cars are a part of everyday life in her district.

“I’ve had residents complaining about loud noises and the mufflers backfiring and some of them backfire and some people think it’s a shot,” Ellis said. “I know it’s even happened to me, you know, 11 or 12 o’clock at night, I hear a car go by and I just hear a loud pop, and I’m not going to take the risk to look out the window and see if it’s gunfire or if it’s an actual car.”

So she introduced a bill aimed at changing that. Although there is already a Metro Ordinance against excessive vehicle noise, Ellis’ bill would have made it even stricter in residential areas.
