The major local route between Smyrna and Odessa will be shut down for 45 days for the replacement of Delaware's most deficient bridge.

DelDOT announced that Route 13 will eventually be closed in both directions over the Blackbird Creek for a bridge replacement project that began last Winter.

According to DelDOT, the Southbound Route 13 bridge is "structurally and hydraulically deficient" due to cracking and corrosion. while the northbound bridge is also suffering from scouring.

The southbound bridge was deemed No. 1 on DelDOT's 2023 Bridge Deficiency List, while northbound was 174th.

The northbound lanes will close on Midnight on Monday, September 8, while the southbound lanes will be closed starting on Monday, September 15.
