HOLLYWOOD HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A car fire in the Hollywood Hills Tuesday evening came dangerously close to spreading to nearby homes - but firefighters and sprinklers helped prevent further damage.

Firefighters responded to the 2100 block of Sunset Plaza Drive around 6:40 p.m. after a report of a car on fire, with flames burning uphill in medium to heavy brush, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

AIR7 footage showed a burned out car as white smoke billowed over the neighborhood.

Homes were threatened, but fire officials have not reported any damage to homes at this point. They say firefighters and sprinklers kept flames from spreading to other structures.

A shelter-in-place order was briefly issued.
