ATLANTA — There are major changes regarding who can get the COVID-19 vaccine in Georgia, and now, with some of the biggest pharmacy chains, like Walgreens and CVS, now requiring a prescription in Georgia.
Last week, the FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccines for people older than 65. Those younger than 65 are eligible if they have certain underlying conditions.
CVS is requiring people in about a dozen states, including Georgia, to have a prescription for the vaccine as the company awaits CDC advisory committee approval on the updated vaccine, a spokesperson said.
According to the appointment system on Walgreens' website, an appointment is also required for a vaccine in Georgia. If someone does not meet the eligibility requirements, the system does not let them book an appointment.
