MANCHESTER, N.H. —

September is the official start of Service Dog Awareness Month in New Hampshire.

Gov. Kelly Ayotte visited Hero Pups, a nonprofit in Exeter, on Tuesday to sign a proclamation recognizing the month.

Hero Pups trains dogs to provide lifelong service and companionship.

Volunteers match the dogs with veterans and first responders living with service-related psychological challenges.
