A Leeds city councillor has been elected as the deputy leader of the Green Party one-year-on from his victory in council elections.

Mothin Ali has been elected as joint deputy leader of the Green Party , alongside Wealden councillor Rachel Millward. London Assembly member Zack Polanski was elected as Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales.

First elected as a councillor in the 2024 local elections , Mothin represents the seat of Gipton and Harehills in the city after defeating Labour in the seat. He also stood for Deputy Mayor of West Yorkshire in 2024 alongside Andrew Cooper in an election which was ultimately won by Labour's Tracy Brabin.
