Mike Trout was scratched from the Los Angeles Angels’ lineup Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals with a skin infection. The news came just before first pitch, leaving fans wondering how long the team’s superstar will be sidelined. The Angels are now 64-73, are well out of the AL West race, and sit 5.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot. Without Trout, things are going to get worse.

Interim manager Ray Montgomery said the issue popped up unexpectedly. “It was one of those weird things that crept up on him today,” Montgomery told reporters.
