The CDC’s director, Dr. Susan Monarez, has been fired after refusing to approve “reckless, unscientific directives.” In the wake of her dismissal, other CDC leaders resigned, including the chief medical officer, Dr. Debra Houry. She stated, “I am committed to protecting the public’s health, but the ongoing changes prevent me from continuing in my job as a leader of the agency.”
