Winnipeg’s homelessness crisis has hit a level we can no longer rationalize, ignore, or paper over with press releases. The most recent street census, released this week by End Homelessness Winnipeg, counted 2,469 people experiencing homelessness on a single day in November 2024. That is a 97 per cent increase from the last census in 2022, when 1,256 were recorded. Nearly double in just two years. Since the census began in 2015, this is the highest number ever recorded.
