MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (KFVS) - The Jackson County Health Department is set to host a drug takeback, confidential document shredding, medical sharps disposal and more event on Saturday, September 20.

The event will take place at the Jackson County Health Department in Murphysboro from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This is a rain-or-shine event.

Area residents can drop off prescription and over-the-counter medications, such as pills, creams and patches. Liquids and inhalers will not be accepted.

In addition to the drug takeback, there will be a medical sharps disposal kiosk for drop-off. Free sharps collection containers will also be available at no cost, upon request.

The health department will also be collecting nutritious and nonperishable food items to help fight food insecurity in Jackson County.
