CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Imagine going online and seeing an ad for a property available to rent, then seeing a picture of a very familiar house and address.

Recently, a Heartland News viewer called to report this happening, claiming their home and address were featured in a Facebook Marketplace Ad they didn’t even know about.

A 2021 study by the Better Business Bureau reports there are millions of these phony listings online.

More recent BBB reports show this type of scam across the state of Missouri, according to regional director Sydney Waters.
