CHARLOTTE — A few Panthers players will have new looks when they walk on the practice field Wednesday afternoon.

Defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton will switch to 99 after wearing 92 throughout the offseason.

Wharton was one of the premium free agent signings this offseason. He had 8.5 sacks last year for the Chiefs (where he wore 98, which was taken here by D.J. Wonnum ).

With 92 suddenly vacant, rookie defensive lineman Cam Jackson will ditch the 55 he wore in the preseason to fit in with the rest of the linemen in the 90s.

Also, rookie outside linebacker Princely Umanmielen switched from 33 to 3.

The Panthers had a few other number switches earlier, including rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald going from 35 to 10, but Fitzgerald had that on for Monday's practice.
