Every person who uses public transit means there is more room for drivers on the road. They decrease traffic, save wear and tear on the city’s streets, and leave more parking spaces available.

A few months ago, The Forum reported that the 2024 ridership on MATBUS was up to 1.3 million riders: a lot of extra traffic that every Fargo-Moorhead driver would have to contend with and compete with for parking spaces. Anyone riding public transportation is providing a benefit to the city, not to mention helping the environment as a bonus. It often seems, however, that bus riders are instead viewed by the city as a burden or, at best, undeserving charity cases.
