WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - New York State Police predict that the number of Move Over traffic violations is set to nearly double from last year’s.
In 2024, there were more than 14,700 tickets for Move Over Law violations issued across the state. As of today, more than 11,600 New Yorkers have received a ticket for violating the Move Over law, a number that Trooper Aga Tinker said will continue to increase.
The Move Over law has been around since 2010, but it was expanded in 2023 to require drivers to change lanes for any vehicle that is stopped on the side of the road, not just emergency vehicles.
Trooper Tinker said drivers should always look ahead and limit distractions while driving.
