The former Keokuk County Sheriff's deputy charged with 13 counts of child endangerment following a 2023 hayrack crash has been found guilty of all charges.
David Heady was a passenger in a truck pulling a trailer full of about 30 kids that crashed in October 2023. Daniel Brubaker was driving the truck when he lost control and entered a ditch , injuring more than a dozen children.
Last week, during opening statements of Heady's trial at the Mahaska County Courthouse, Assistant Iowa Attorney General Frank Severino described the incident as "completely preventable." Investigators testified Heady and Brubaker drank heavily before the crash.
Tuesday, after just about two hours of deliberation, the jury delivered guilty verdicts on all 13 of Heady's child endangerment charges.
