TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) is expanding its brain health programming thanks to a $100,000 community reinvestment grant from Mercy Care.

The funding supports “Brain Health Matters,” a program focused on reducing stigma around dementia, increasing early detection, and providing tools for proactive brain care.

With the new funding, the PCOA will bring memory screenings directly to community events and health fairs, removing barriers that often keep people from seeking help.

“There’s still a lot of stigma around it and there’s a lot of fear around it,” said Harbhajan Khalsa, program director for Dementia Capable Southern Arizona, which is anchored at PCOA. “Getting in your car and going to the office or making that phone call, people don’t necessarily want to
