Nearly $44 million worth of cocaine was seized last month during back-to-back searches of trucks at the Blue Water Bridge, officials said Wednesday.

As previously reported, Abdikadir Egal, 38, was arrested on Aug. 14 at the twin-span bridge linking Port Huron, Mich., and Point Edward and charged with importing cocaine and possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) declined to provide any information at the time about the alleged incident, but in a joint statement issued Wednesday they said border officers discovered 199 kg of suspected cocaine in a truck’s trailer with an estimated value of nearly $25 million.
