Tesco has introduced a major innovation to its fruit and vegetable section through a groundbreaking trial that enables shoppers to check how ripe their fruit is before purchasing.
The retail giant has introduced scanners across five stores as part of this pioneering experiment. These gadgets, operating similarly to compact X-ray machines, evaluate avocado ripeness.
Shoppers can simply place an avocado before one of these scanners, which will then deliver one of two ripeness assessments - either ready for mashing straight away or more suitable for chopping in a salad.
