HOUSTON – As Jazz Chisholm Jr. worked his way up the Diamondbacks’ farm system, Arizona’s minor league coaches frequently used a surprising example when teaching young players how to run the bases.

“Our goal was always Goldie,” Chisholm said, referring to former Diamondback Paul Goldschmidt, now a teammate on the Yankees.

Goldschmidt, now 37, has never been the fastest runner, but he’s always been a savvy one . Teach those smarts to a speedster like Chisholm, and you get one heckuva runner.

“I’m already fast, right?” Chisholm asked rhetorically. “Now being fast and knowing how to run the bases like Goldie, who’s gonna be better than me at that?”
