SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport officials approved nearly $8.5 million on Wednesday to buy and install five passenger boarding bridges.

The four-gate expansion project is still a year away from completion, but it’s another step in the right direction for the thousands of fliers every day.

It’s a significant part of the traveling process that can easily be overlooked.

“We’ve done life cycle replacements throughout the years as they’ve ended their life, and these will fall into that rotation,” said Senior Director of Marketing & Air Service Development Lori Lynah. “It’s a big part of what happens in the concourse, in the actual operation of getting planes to the concourse and people on and off.”
