An agricultural animal waste spill that occurred near Union High School on Friday took most of the day to be cleaned up, with the intersection at the corner of Kader Merritt Road and West Magnolia-Lisbon Road reopening at around 3 p.m. The spill was first reported at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning, and there was some confusion at the time as to who was responsible for traffic control and cleanup.

“We don’t know where it came from,” Taylors Bridge Fire Chief Alan Williams told The Sampson Independent at about 10:30 a.m. Friday. “They called it in, the fire department was dispatched. I requested Emergency Management; they’ve exhausted all their resources to determine where the spill came from, what it is. We requested the Department of Transportation, since it’s their highway, to come clean it up
