CHICAGO (WGN) — The unofficial end of summer has come and gone and with that, the end of beach season in Chicago.

Here's what you need to know if you plan to head to any of the city's beaches post Labor Day.

Can I go swimming at city beaches after Labor Day?

No.

Swimming is not allowed at Chicago's lakefront beaches.

The Chicago Park District closes the city's lakefront beaches after Labor Day and lifeguards are no longer on duty.

Red flags will also be posted along the beach, indicating swimming is prohibited.

What happens if you're caught swimming at the beach after Labor Day?

According to Chapter 7 of the Chicago Park District Code, anyone caught violating the rules is subject to a fine of up to $500.
