Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative alerts members to increased fraudulent phone calls

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative has reported an increase in attempted fraudulent phone calls, with callers posing as Bluebonnet representatives, claiming member accounts are past due, threatening same-day disconnection and asking for immediate payment.

The fraudulent calls are coming from 512-521-3002. Members are then directed to call 888-216-3973 to make a payment. Bluebonnet said it will never call asking for immediate payment, threatening a same-day disconnect.

Bluebonnet members can check their account status online at bluebonnet.coop, via the MyBluebonnet mobile app or by calling 800-842-7708 and following the prompts.

Bluebonnet recommends members who receive a suspicious call to get as much information as possible about the caller, including their caller ID info
