TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday that Wayne Atkins of Troy pleaded guilty in an animal abuse case. Atkins, 55, was issued a fine and was ordered to serve 60 days in jail.
As part of his plea, Atkins admitted to mistreating two Pittbulls at a residence in Troy in September 2024. He confessed to using a stick to strike both animals before dragging one of the dogs by the collar and throwing it across the yard at the home.
"Mr. Atkins agreed in Troy City Court today to surrender the animals," Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly stated. "Additionally, Mr. Atkins agreed to never owning another animal, and his name will be added to the Rensselaer County Animal Abuse Registry."
