KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee's Board of Parole declined to let a Knoxville man accused of shooting and killing a business owner out of prison.

Jimmy Ray Cureton was sent to the Morgan County Correctional Complex in 1997 after being found guilty of the murder of South Knoxville store owner Bill Frye.

Frye was shot and killed outside his business in January 1990, but the case went cold for years before Cureton was arrested and charged. Cureton was 17 years old at the time of the killing.

The board of parole told WBIR it denied Cureton "due to the seriousness of his offense." His parole hearing was on Aug. 28, and the parole board reached its final decision on Wednesday.
