A Copperas Cove man is facing a felony charge after being accused of driving his SUV into a river on Fort Hood and reporting it stolen in order to deceive his insurance company.
In August, a Coryell County grand jury indicted Michael Alexander Johnson, 36, on a third-degree felony charge of insurance fraud in an amount of $30,000 or more, but less than $150,000.
Johnson was not being held in the county jail after posting bond.
Police said that on Oct. 10, 2024, Johnson reported his 2020 GMC Denali 2500 had been stolen.
“Michael had a home surveillance video of the truck leaving early in the morning at 4 a.m. and (he) noticed it missing at 8:30 a.m., but (there was) no video of the suspects,” according to an arrest affidavit signed by an investigator with the Coryell County Sheriff’s Of
