MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Minot city leaders are divided over how to use sales tax dollars.
They took up the discussion again at Tuesday’s council meeting on whether they should put some of it to public safety.
Council member Paul Pitner presented two proposals that the council has talked about so far.
Proposal A is to make a new half-cent sales tax, which he said would generate $6 million in revenue.
Pitner said this would cover police and firefighters’ non-salary costs, such as equipment.
“Proposal A creates new money, relieves the levy today, protects against future levy increases, and preserves community improvements and investments,” said Pitner.
Pitner said the second proposal is to reallocate 50% of the first penny in sales tax to go towards public safety. But he said this poses ri
