A Morris County man drowned during a family outing at the Delaware River on Sept. 2, officials said.

The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area emergency communications center received a report of a drowning near the Kittatinny Point picnic area around 4:10 p.m., the National Park Service said in a press release.

Crews recovered the body of a 30-year-old Parsippany man from the river, where the water was approximately 17 feet deep, the release stated. The man had been swimming with family members when he became tired while attempting to swim across the river and went under the surface.

The National Park Service did not release the name of the victim.

Agencies responding to the call included NPS rangers and dive team members, along with the New Jersey State Police and water rescue
