Clifton Park, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- 11 families are recovering after an apartment fire in Clifton Park on Saturday. In the wake of the fire, they say their situation could have been much worse without the help and resilience of their community.

The Chaudhry family first spoke with us on Monday. Siraj Chaudhry described the immense pain and fear he felt when he realized he may have lost everything in the fire, to include his cat, Niko.

“I went out of this building. I felt hopeless. I felt miserable. I'm like, everything I know is gone, everything" Siraj explained on Monday.

The night of the fire was every pet owner's worst nightmare. Michelle Chaudhry told us about her experience.
